SAS Unveiling & Dedication Ceremony 30 Jan 2021

We felt the need to hold a small unveiling and dedication service for those members who have passed on recently and whose plaques have been added to the Wall of Remembrance. Unfortunately, in these troubled Covid times, visitors to the Memorial are restricted by Flame Lily Park so family members do not have the freedom to visit and pay homage as they could in the past. This small service will hopefully let the family members know that C (Rhodesia) Squadron respects, honours and remembers their own.

Thanks go to Ken Joubert, Ian Stenson and Dave O’Sullivan for taking the time to assist with the Service. Although not in the photographs, Gabriel is thanked once again for playing the Last Post and Reveille.

SAS UNVEILING AND DEDICATION CEREMONY 30 JANUARY 2021

WELCOME

  • Welcome and thank you:
    • Those who have put everything together
    • Those who have given their time to be here

OPENING PRAYER

  • Heavenly Father, we come before you today in humility and gratitude, and in the knowledge that You, and You alone, are in control of all things.

We are specially gathered here to remember those of our Airborne Brotherhood who have passed on in recent months.

We thank you that we are, by Your Grace in our lives, privileged to do this.

We think of the families of those whom we remember today, and we ask that they would know your comfort and love as they grieve. Strengthen them and lead them on their journey of life in this world, and may they come to know your saving Grace and Mercy that comes to us through Your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, for it is in the name of Jesus that we pray these things.

AMEN

THE SUNSET CALL

  • We are called here to stand on this hallowed ground, to pause for a moment in time, to remember those of our number of the Special Air Service who have recently passed on to Higher Service, to unveil and dedicate Remembrance Plaques in their honour:
    • They have all served, and at times placed their lives on the line for freedom, justice and peace
    • They have all faced hardship, challenge, emotional stress, emptiness and sadness…along with joy and happiness
    • Each has had his own battle to face in life
    • Each belongs to the Brotherhood of Special Forces Soldiers
    • Each will be equally remembered.
    • At the going down of the sun, and in the morning…we will remember them
